Two Victims Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.
The pair of scholars who died in the recent violent attack in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter persisted following the discharge by local law enforcement of the sole person questioned in the case.
Honoring a Lost Student
The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.
Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies online, stating: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”
The Second Victim
The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, family members said.
Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.
What Happened
Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man arrested in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.
“We have a murderer out there,” stated Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate new worry for our community”.
The shooter began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the Associated Press.
Law enforcement that raided the inn found two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.
Those Hurt
Of the nine hurt, one student was allowed to go home, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she worked for her branch and fellow classmates,” he said.
The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “Our profound condolences go out to his relatives, friends, and fellow students and grieve for of his promising future.”
