Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be real Spurs fans" by boss Frank.

Spurs let in two scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th Premier League home defeat of 2025.

But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second goal when the keeper lost possession far outside his area.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italy international spun and attempted to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and again at full-time.

A particular of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Dane commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are with each other going forward."

Tete had given the visitors a early lead before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the role the keeper is playing. He's a great squad member, he is a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game

Italian national team the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

He said after the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He stated being booed "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on the team to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it's hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'

Despite the keeper's mistake, it was not an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – after Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

Ten seconds elapsed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," he remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my interest sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a bit of additional time. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the right contact and place it towards goal. I had a positive feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round bad performance for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the league, a shared team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the close of the year.

Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.

"During in a poor run, everything appears to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a high profile job at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
