The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
