Sonic's Racer Takes Aim at Mario Kart World in Newest Promotional Push
We're in 2025, and the promotional efforts for Sega's CrossWorlds Racer are eager to recall the classic console rivalry spirit. A new promotional video for the blue speedster's kart racer seemingly uses grainy footage of Mario Kart World, leveraging it to suggest that the opposition's game underuses its free-roaming structure.
Critiquing the Competition
"We all know that popular racer, it's great, there's no need to display it here," the commercial opens. "But what if you could speed past and drive on a different plane?" The clip then goes on to emphasize key of the game's key aspects, such as full kart modification and cross-platform multiplayer.
"Or maybe you want to roam freely on the expansive world?" the voiceover asks, filled with doubt.
Previous Events of Callouts
Although this isn't the first occasion that the creators behind Sega's title have called out Mario Kart World, it is definitely the bluntest they have acted regarding the head-to-head battle. The advertisement also references a throwback advertisement for the classic Sega console that educated audiences about the console's "blast processing" capabilities. At the time, Sega showcased its hardware advantage by featuring a race car racing on a circuit. Toward the end, it juxtaposed the Super Nintendo to an old RV that had Super Mario Kart running on a old TV fastened to the rear of the vehicle with a rope.
Launch Information
The game is set to release next week on the 25th of September for Nintendo's hybrid console, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. However, players who pre-order can access it sooner... but not if they're on Switch. Welp.
