Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
