Prince Andrew gives up his designation as the Duke.
Prince Andrew is giving up his honors, including the the Duke, he has declared in a individual message.
He has been under growing pressure over his associations with disgraced financier Epstein, with calls for the royal household to take measures against him.
That now looks to have caused the prince deciding to willingly hand back his designations and to relinquish participation of the Garter Order.
In his message he said he continued to "vigorously refute the allegations against me".
"In consultation with the sovereign, and my direct and wider family, we have concluded the persistent allegations about me distract from the duties of His Majesty and the royal household," said a announcement from Prince Andrew.
"I have opted, as I always have, to put my duty to my relatives and land first.
"I support my resolution five years ago to stand back from royal engagements.
"With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer hold my designation or the awards which have been granted to me. As I have said earlier, I firmly deny the claims against me."
The royal has faced a range of issues, such as a court case he settled with Virginia Giuffre, doubts about his finances and his connection with an alleged intelligence operative.
He will stay a member of royalty - but will stop to be the York's Duke, a designation granted from his the late Queen, the late Queen Elizabeth.
He had already ceased to be a "participating figure" and had given up the use of his royal style and no longer appeared at public engagements. His position now will be even more reduced.
His ex-wife will be known as Ferguson and no longer the Duchess, but their daughters will persist to have the designation of princesses.
The royal has faced severe scrutiny over his associations with disgraced financier Epstein, more lately involving questions about when he had truly cut off contact.
In his BBC Newsnight interview, Prince Andrew had said that he had severed all links with Epstein after they had been photographed together in the city in the end of 2010.
But messages sent in the following year later surfaced indicating that Andrew had confidentially stayed in communication with him, such as exchanging a message: "Remain connected and we'll meet again soon!"
There had been growing annoyance in the royal household at the controversies that persisted to plague the royal.
Next week a late publication by Virginia Giuffre will be published which is likely to cast more scrutiny on his involvement with Ms Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein.
