Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were halted after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
