Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and want to give it something," said Hodgkinson.
"The environment out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The women-only event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their crowns.
Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
