American Armed Forces Conducts Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in Four Deaths
As stated by a senior military spokesperson, the American military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a vessel linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Background and Recent Actions
This announcement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military presence.
Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amid Pressure
The government has faced growing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
